Saturday saw Armagh U18 XV face yet another Belfast based team "Instonians". With two great wins already this season the first 17-0 against Ballymoney and the second against Belfast Harlequins with an impressive score of 25-0.
Saturday’s game started off with the Armagh boys piling the pressure on the Instonians defence. For 20 minutes Armagh fought hard with some great runs from Andrew Willis and Steven Morton along with some great services from stand-in fly half Matthew Irwin, which eventually saw Matthew Irwin scoring the first points of the game with Willis converting leaving the score 07-0.
After the restart Instonians were quick of the mark and managed to get a soft try past the Armagh defence but failed to convert leaving the halftime score 07-05.
The second half came with some explosive play from both the forwards and backs. Armagh forwards dominated with their rucking and mauling which lead to Armagh getting their 2nd try of the day scored by Robert Dodds with the conversion being missed leaving the score 14-05.
After the restart Instonians pressed hard which resulted in Armagh giving away a penalty which was kicked over the post the score now 14-08. But Armagh hit back hard and from then on it was one-way traffic with Willis putting three tries past Instonians in quick succession but only getting the two conversions leaving the full time score 31-08.
A great team performance, with Steven Morton receiving man of the match. |
