Success For Minis Against Local Rivals

10th October 2006

Last Saturday Armagh RFC hosted both Portadown and Dungannon at all age groups across Mini Rugby. Quite apart from the superb spectacle of over 300 children enjoying their rugby for almost  2 hours at the Palace Grounds , the results also went the way of the host club.

As now seems traditional, Armagh emerged victorious against Portadown across the board with the only exception being the U11s who were pipped at the post by a last minute try from their rivals in blue. although the same team went on to make amends by winning their other match against Dungannon.

Pride of place goes to the U9 and U12 teams this week who won both their matches well, with the U9s scoring 7 tries while conceding none against Portadown and then also playing some superb running rugby to beat Dungannon.

Similarly the U12s played an excellent combination of forwards strength and backs flair to win both their matches comfortably. Thanks are due to both Portadown and Dungannon for coming over and putting up with a more congested Saturday than usual, althought the format which gives the players more matches certainly has caught on.

Thanks also to the volunteers who helped with the kitchen duties and just managed  to contain a hungry mob after the games.

Armagh Mini Rugby would ask that more parents get involved in helping out with these duties on match days as it is unfair to expect the same people to do the work every time.

This Saturday sees training at home for all age groups, could all parents please remember to bring in any outstanding forms for registration  - as a reminder, all players must return an Armagh RFC registration form, all players from U7 to U12 must return an IRFU form with 2 passport photos and a copy of the players Birth Certificate.

This second form is for registration with the IRFU and will result in a players card being isued for your child . Without that card , which is used as proof of age your child runs the risk of not being able to play in matches or any tournaments we attend.

Please contact Paul McCord at paul.mccord1@btinternet.com if you have any queries regarding registration.
