| One of Armagh's Mini Rugby coaches, Mike Boyd, will be running the Des Sables Marathon this year in aid of the Wooden Spoon charity, the official charity for the Home Unions and a charity which focuses on assisting underprivileged and handicapped children.
Armagh RFC has strong links with the Wooden Spoon, having introduced them to both Longstone Riding for the Disabled and the Oaklands respite home, both of whom have recently benefited from Wooden Spoon investment in their respective facilities.
If you wish to sponsor Mike in his efforts to raise money for this very worthy cause please contact him at Mini Rugby on Saturday mornings, via e-mail at: mboyd1@madasafish.com, or by clicking the 'Sponsor Me Now' link below to sponsor him online via his fundraising website:
Below are details from Mike regarding his charitable marathon:
"I coach the P5’s at City of Armagh Rugby Club. At the end of March 2008 I will miss a couple of Saturday morning sessions because I’m heading to Southern Morocco to take part in the Marathon des Sables, a 6 day 150 mile race across the Sahara desert.
As if running the 150 miles in 40º+ temperatures wasn’t bad enough, everything required to survive the race will be carried in a rucksack. This will include food, clothes, distress flares, medical kit and sleeping bag. Fortunately, water rations will be provided by the race organisers.
I am raising money for Wooden Spoon, a rugby based charity who help underprivileged children in Northern Ireland. In the last couple of years, among many other worthy causes in the Province, Wooden Spoon has donated funds to both Longstone Riding for the Disabled and the Oaklands Respite Home in Armagh.
A unique feature of Wooden Spoon is that all money raised in Ulster is spent in Ulster and in addition is matched by top-up money from Spoon’s central funds.
Please help me raise as much money as possible for this very worthwhile cause. All donations will be very greatly appreciated".
Many thanks,
Michael Boyd |
