| Instonians (24) vs City of Armagh (46) |
21 Jan 2012 |
 |
With City of Armagh not having a league fixture in 2012 yet it was always going to be tricky for coach, Andy Hughes, to retain match fitness within his squad. Although Armagh’s season has been a little erratic so far, the season took on a brighter complexion on New Year’s Eve when they pulled off a fine 11-0 win over Rainey in Magherafelt.
Indeed, the win, away from home and with Rainey unable to penetrate the Armagh’s defence was a very welcome tonic for the Armagh side. The stature of this win became all the more evident when we look at the fact Rainey hold... View News |

City of Armagh Thirds kept up their impressive Junior League campaign when they travelled to Monaghan on Saturday in blustery, showery conditions to play on a sticky pitch.
Armagh realised straight away they were going to be in for a difficult afternoon when a couple of silly mistakes allowed Monaghan to make their way into th e Armagh half. City of Armagh seconds travelled to Civil Service on Saturday to play the local 1st fifteen in a conference league game. The game which was played on an excellent playing surface was a great advert for running rugby with the Armagh forwards and backs displaying great mobility and handling skills.

14th Jan 2012 |

City of Armagh 3rd XV started their pursuit of the Forster Cup with an emphatic victory on a glorious afternoon at the Palace Grounds.
After a five week break, Armagh appeared a little rusty and started slowly making simple mistakes and gifting the opposition possession. However, after 10 minutes, Harry Boyd converted a penalty after the opposition crumbled under intense Armagh pressure.
Armagh then started to put some flowing rugby together and Boyd’s cross field kick was collected by Simon Beckett who sent Adam Brennan through to score... View News |

| Associate Referees Course @ Club on Feb 9th 2012 |
02nd Jan 2012 |
 |
The Ulster Branch will be running an Associate Referees Course in the Club on Feb 9th between 7pm & 9pm. This is an ideal opportunity for all coaches and those with an interest in refereeing to gain a better understanding of how to control a match and what to look out for.
This is perfect for all currently involved with teams of any age, and means that those who pass the course will be permitted and insured (although not obliged) to referee at all levels up to Minor Club rugby .It is the foundation block for anyone choosing to pursue refereeing at a higher level.
For Mini coaches it means that you are properly covered when you referee at a Blitz or tournament (individual Sat matches do not need formal referees).
For Youth coaches it means you are covered to referee any Age Grade match should the official referee not turn up.
This course is free of charge, City of Armagh Rugby Club would ask all coaches (senior and junior ) to attend.
While we also have a core of spectators who should probably attend, we see little point in confusing them. |

| Rainey OB (0) vs. City of Armagh (11) |
31st Dec 2011 |
 |
Saturday saw City of Armagh travel to Magherafelt to play Rainey Old Boys in the Ulster senior League. This was to be Armagh’s last game of 2011 and so far their first season since returning to senior rugby was proving to be somewhat fraught! Having failed to win a game since the October fixture with Sligo the team all knew that with the exception of the defeat against Barnhall this series of losses was due to silly errors rather than any core shortcoming within the squad.
However, with this stigma weighing heavily on the minds of all the Armagh supporters the trip to Rainey did not bode well since the Magherafelt team were lying second in the All Ireland League whereas Armagh were seen... View News |

31st Dec 2011 |

City of Armagh Seconds travelled to Hatrick Park to play Rainey seconds in a league game on New Year’s eve. Armagh played with the elements in the first half and soon posed a threat to Rainey with an attacking move led by Freddie Cuttle deep in Rainey’s 22 ending with the ball running dead.
Rainey put Armagh under some early pressure, however as in the previous game against Ballynahinch, the defence was well organised with numerous double hits repelling any attacks.
On 14 minutes Mathew Steenson stroked over a 40 metre penalty to put Armagh ahead 3 – 0. With the forwards starting to warm to the task, Steven Morton finished off a forward drive to touch down in the corner View News |

It was another disappointing day at the office for City of Armagh on Saturday as they slipped to an Ulster Senior League defeat at the Palace Grounds against Ballynahinch.

City of Armagh Seconds played Ballynahinch seconds in a home 2nd xv league fixture on Saturday on the thirds pitch as the first and second pitches were unplayable due to frost. The game started with the home forwards under pressure in the scrums, however good driving, mauling by the forwards and intelligent use of the ball by the backs created good field position in Ballynahinch’s 22.

City of Armagh 3rd's unequivocal unbeaten run continued on Saturday thanks to a convincing victory on a cold afternoon at the Palace Grounds.
Having to start the game with 14 men, Armagh thought they would be up against it. Lurgan also had a man turn up late so it was 14 against 14. This seemed to drive Armagh on as right from the kick off, Armagh dominated up front and created space for Matthew Allen to go over in the corner.

05th MOvember 2011 |
 |
Saturday saw City of Armagh make the long trip deep into Connacht to play their fifth game in the Ulster Bank League against Connemara in Clifden.
Armagh’s form has slipped into a somewhat mediocre form recently. They headed west with two defeats from Banbridge and the ‘skin of their teeth’ win against Sligo still fresh in the back of their minds. This all made the result from this fixture all the more crucial.
The game was played on the Monastery Field in near perfect conditions with bright sunshine and a magnificent backdrop of what could only be described as breathtaking scenery.

| City of Armagh (47) vs Ards (13) |
27th Aug 2011 |
|
Saturday saw City of Armagh Rugby Club open their season by hosting Ards in their first game of the Ulster League.
There was always going to be a certain degree of apprehension hanging about the Palace Grounds since this was the first game to be played since being promoted into the senior league.
The last time these two teams met was in the 1997-98 season in The All-Ireland League when the Ards side put 40 odd points on the board against the City of Armagh team...! View News |

| Youth Rugby Training 2011-2012 |
27th Aug 2011 |
 |
After last years successful season Armagh Youth Rugby opens its` doors again on Tuesday August 2nd @ 7pm for U13 , U15 and U17 groups.
U19s should keep an eye on this website and the local press for details of their training arrangements, details to follow. The Ulster Branch have decided to change the date eligibility for all groups again and we revert to the old model which follows school years for U13 and U15 - U17 becomes an 18 month group and U19s remain categorised by calendar year. Therefore the various age groups are as follows:
U13 Players born between July 1 1998 and June 30 2000
U15 Players born between July 1 1996 and June 30 1998
U17 Players born between Jan 1 1995 and June 30 1996
U19 Players born in 1993 or 1994
These changes mean that some of last years U11 and all of last years U12 players will step up to the U13 group. Attached is a list of all players from U11 up to U17 from last year and which age group they now sit in. If any of these details are wrong, or you have any concerns regarding the group your child is in, please contact Paul on the first training night or via paul.mccord1@btinternet.com.
For anyone who is in First Year at the Royal School, you are allowed to be dual registered for both club and school. You may also train and play for both if you choose. However, the 72 hour rule applies whereby you cannot play more than 2 matches for either club, school or both within that timeframe. This rule will be rigidly applied as player welfare is our primary concern. Please note that this does not apply to any player in any other year at the Royal where standard transfer procedure is in place.

Once the season is in full swing training may switch to Wednesday evening but for now we want to avoid clashing with the Ulster U16 sessions where Armagh have 9 representatives in the initial panel. Matches begin in September and given squad sizes this year, selection preference will be given to those who train regularly.
