| Ladies Season Comes To An End |
10 May 2013 |
 |
Friday night, at City of Armagh Rugby Club, saw the finale of the Under 18 Ladies' season. Requests from Enniskillen and Monaghan for matches encouraged the club to host one more event. Enniskillen requested Tag rugby and Monaghan, who have just got through to the final of the Rugby Community Games, wanted a full contact match.
33 girls played and the weather was unusually favourable. Armagh Ladies played Contact against Monaghan and then both these teams played Tag against Enniskillen. A BBQ followed, with buns and cake, kindly sponsored by Johnston's Bakery.
The guests left enthusing about the outstanding Armagh hospitality, something the Club has been renowned for over many years. We wish Monaghan every success in their final and hope to meet both teams in the next rugby season.

| Provincial Rugby Comes to Armagh |
21 April 2013 |
 |
Sunday the 21st of April saw a festival of ladies’ rugby in the south of the Province. Ulster U18 ladies regional development squads had been training for several months. Camps were based between the East and West of Ulster with a culmination of a head to head match between the two.
On the kick off the two teams seemed eager to play running rugby. The Western side got their hands on the ball and set off with a series of rucks from the strong forward pack, which pulled the Eastern defence... View Report |

| MINIS AND YOUTH SHINE IN ARMAGH |
8 Apr 2013 |
 |
What an amazing weekend of Mini and Youth rugby at City of Armagh RFC. On Saturday, over 1000 players
of primary school age took to the pitches and put on a great show of enthusiasm and no little skill.
This was
followed by a Province-wide Under 18 Ladies blitz on Sunday. Five clubs attended with 65 girls playing both
Tag and Contact rugby in fine weather. Spoils went to Malone and Belfast Harlequins, with individual awards
going to Letterkenny, Finn Valley and Armagh.
3 of Ireland's Grand Slam Winners were present to enjoy this
festival of Ladies' Rugby, and brought along the Triple Crown Trophy to show to the gathered throng. Ulster
Branch's Joy Sparkes adjudicated the several award categories and Armagh's President, John Atkinson,
rounded off a superb day by giving out the trophies and prizes.

| Armagh Rugby Girls in Ulster Development Squad |
18 Feb 2013 |
 |
City of Armagh Under 18 Ladies have now selected four of their players to go forward to the Regional Ulster Development Squad. Congratulations go to Niamh McCord, Laura Donnelly, Faye Nugent and Rachel Totten, who will be training with girls Province-wide, before a final Ulster team selection is made.
As a newly formed section of the Club, it is a credit to the commitment of the coaching staff and the Girls on the pitch to have players meeting this standard so early in their development.
To further this development, City of Armagh Ladies also hope to host a squad from St Mary's RFC from Limerick before the end of the season, as well as attending further home and away Rugby Festivals. Details of these will follow.
If you are interested in playing Under 18 Ladies Rugby, having fun or just simply getting fit, contact Zoe Templeton on 07706750058 or Shirley-anne Donaldson on 07754603868, or come along to training on Mondays 7pm to 8pm. |

| Armagh U18 Ladies Excel in Letterkenny |
17 Feb 2013 |
 |
Fifteen Under 18 Ladies travelled to Letterkenny on Sunday, to do battle with teams from Letterkenny RFC and
Finn Valley RFC. Under the expert tutelage of Mark Riddle, Philip Fletcher and Dylan Ferreira the Girls had
a very successful day. First up were Letterkenny in a "touch" match.
Armagh emerged victorious from a
very close contest, with the Girls having to play at their best to overcome a very competent home team.
A "full contact" match against Letterkenny ended in another win for the Girls from Armagh, with
Rachel Totten and Victoria Irwin particularly outstanding.
Among the try scorers were Gabrielle Fox, Laura
Henderson and Laura Donnelly with great offloads from Ciara Hawes. When under pressure, the defence stood
firm with Rosie Callaghan and Niamh McCord putting in some great tackles.
The day concluded with a mixed
Armagh/Letterkenny team playing a very strong team from Finn Valley. After a ding-dong contest, the honours
were shared and the Armagh Girls headed home unbeaten.
Everyone played with spirit and lots of skill and
can look back at their contribution with pride. City of Armagh Ladies would like to take this opportunity to thank
Jeremy Worth and his team of helpers at Letterkenny for their warm welcome and excellent hospitality. |

| City of Armagh Ladies (38) vs Newry Ladies (0) |
29 Dec 2012 |
 |
City of Armagh Ladies made a welcome return to the pitch over the Xmas break when
they took on Newry under floodlights at the Palace Grounds on December 29th.
While both sides boasted a significant proportion of rugby novices the home
side was bolstered by a few returning university students and it was their
experience, allied to the home sides ability to retain more shape to their
game, which proved decisive.
While the Newry side possessed some excellent runners and more than willing tacklers, Armagh were more committed in possession and able to launch their more aggressive runners into space more frequently which ultimately led to the home sides tries.
From the kick off Armagh showed their intent with a couple of charges through the middle with Claire Wallace, leading the way and setting a fine
example to the rest of the team - from this platform Armagh looked to pass
the ball wide and both wingers frequently made significant inroads.
After one such move, Naomi Herron cut through three attempted Newry tackles and touched down beside the posts to open the scoring and, with the try being easily converted by Hannah Watson, Armagh took an early 7-0 lead.
Another score quickly followed when Claire again made great progress from the kick off, and with most of the Newry defence attracted to the contact area, two simple passes put the Armagh centre, Jenni Wallace, in at the posts. With the conversion again successful Armagh were now 14 points to the good.
Following a knock on from the restart, Newry established a foothold in
Armagh territory and began to exert pressure on the home defence. Through a mixture of excellent tackling and discipline the Armagh line held firm, and
when Newry kicked slightly long, giving easy possession to Armagh's full back
Hannah Watson, she was able to launch an effective counter attack where both
she and Estelle Johnston, on debut, made ground down the right wing.
After a couple more phases of possession, Newrys defence was caught out of position on the opposite wing and Anna-Mae Morton ran under the posts for Armagh's third try of the night, again converted by the Lady of the Erne.
A fourth try would follow shortly before half time as a concerted period of Armagh possession put repeated pressure on the Newry defence and despite some excellent tackling and covering from the visitors, the defence simply ran out of bodies. This saw the half time whistle blow with the score at 26-0 in favour of the home side.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Newry enjoying quite a bit
of possession and territorial dominance. However, a lack of experience and
composure showed at times and Newry weren't able to turn their dominance
into points.
On the occcasion where Armagh did get the ball they made more ground and were simply more clinical. They also proved that there is no substitute for sheer pace when Anna Mae took advantage of broken field possession and a tiring Newry side to break away for another try, securing the bragging rights over her brother who had only managed one score that afternoon against Dungannon.
With only one other score coming towards the end of the game the final
score was 38-0 to Armagh. Great credit goes to both teams for a very
entertaining match, watched by a sizeable crowd who were drawn away from
the Ulster/Munster game to support both sides.
Despite the scoreline Newry deserve great credit for all their efforts and should be very encouraged by many aspects of their play.
From an Armagh perspective, it is a shame that we cannot regularly field a
senior ladies side, but the example set by the team in this game was an
excellent one for the watching juniors who will form a senior side in the
near future.
