Community Cup News - Semi Final

14th December 2007

This weeks Semi Finals in the Community Cup saw Banbridge take on Randalstown at both U14 and U16 level.

In the senior game, Banbridge proved the more clinical team, more able to finish the chances which came their way. Randalstown for their part, really put it up to Banbridge physically, but were let down by some basic handling errors which took the presssure from their opponents.

In the first half Banbridge twice crossed the Randalstown line, and when they scored their third try soon after half time the game was all but over. However, credit to Randalstown, they came back strongly and were rewarded with a deserved score 10 minutes from time which was converted. Final score was 19-07 to Banbridge.

At U14 level, Randalstown started strongly and exerted strong pressure on a Banbridge side keen to run the ball. Randalstown forced quite a few early turnovers and from one kicked ahead. Uncertainty from the Banbridge full back let the ball bounce into the hands of the chasing Randalstown player who went over in the corner.

Banbridge attempted to retaliate by running the ball at every opportunity but poor handling and imprecise passing let them down. Randalstown, for their part, continued to dominate up front. Into the second half and Banbridges more expansive style finally paid dividends as passes went to hand and both pace and power out wide unravelled the Randalstown defence. In all, four tries were scored to leave Banbridge victors by 24-05.

Next weeks sees the finals of both age groups between Monaghan and Banbridge , with kick off at 7:30pm.
