Last Wednesday saw the last of the preliminary round matches in this years Community Cup as Randalstown took on Lisburn in both age groups. At U14 level, Randalstown dominated the game, winning plenty of ball to supply to some very quick runners in their backs.
Some good Lisburn defence contained most attacks however Randalstown were able to score 17 points without reply, running out comfortable winners. The U16 match was more competitive until close to the end.
The first half saw sides trading score for score and the only difference at half time was one conversion with Lisburn edging the game 14-12. In the second half however Randalstown were more able to get the ball to their centres and left winger in particular who repeatedly made good ground despite sometimes choosing to kick at inappropriate times.
An injury to one Lisburn player led to a delay in the game while an amblance arrived, and on the restart Randalstown pulled away, scoring 3 tries to none in the second half and ending up 27-14 winners.
Both Randalstown teams now move forward to play Armagh in the quarter finals at the end of November.
Armagh Rugby Club would also like to wish a speedy recovery to the injured Lisburn player who we believe suffered a broken wrist. We look forward to seeing him back in the League later in the year.
