City of Armagh 4XV, Dream Team, were given a real test at the weekend when they entertained Portadown Fifths at the Palace Grounds.

The visitors took the lead on 15 minutes through a Jonny McAfee drop goal in front of the posts. But Armagh responded seven minutes later when hooker Gareth Warnock timed his pass to Wayne Marshall to perfection, sending the winger in at the corner.

Stan Hamilton missed the conversion but on 27 minutes a piece of individual brilliance from the scrum-half extended Armagh’s lead.

Armagh were awarded a penalty in the centre of the pitch and when Hamilton spotted there was no full-back at home, he punted the ball down the middle, gathered it on the bounce and scored under the sticks.

He also added the simple conversion to extend the lead to 12-03.

Back came the visitors and they scored an unconverted try seven minutes from the break.

Into the second half and John Faloon burst through a couple of tackles to score in the corner on 49 minutes.

And Faloon grabbed his second of the game on the hour mark after a powerful run.

Hamilton added the conversion to make it 240-8 but it was Portadown who had the final word when they scored a converted try in the last move of the game, to make the final score 24-15 to the home side.
