City of Armagh 3rd's kept their unbeaten home record intact with another scintillating triumph on Saturday at the Palace against CIYMS 3rd XV.
The game started much better than Armagh had planned. Although the visitor’s started with 14 men, Armagh’s skilful handling created a chance for Robert Straghan to dance around a weak defence.
Frederick Cuttle, making his first appearance in seven months, added the conversion. This seemed to allow the floodgates to open as within fifteen minutes, Matty Allen and Cuttle went over, pretty much unopposed. From the restart, some champagne rugby ended up with Christopher Wallace showing his turn off speed to race through a gap to score.
Two tries from Stephen Morton and further tries from Mark Laverty and Mark Allen left Armagh with a comfortable 53-0 lead at half time.
After a conversation with the opposition captain, the referee approached Armagh asking to blow up after 60 minutes to ensure the result would stand. Armagh pushed to score as many points in the shorter period to help their, what may prove vital, points difference.
Stephen Morton added his third and Straghan and Mark Allen added their second as the opposition provided a bit more opposition. These were all converted by Cuttle before the referee blew the game up 20 minutes early.
Armagh played some very impressive free flowing rugby with impressive performances from everyone and will hope to maintain their impressive record when they entertain Lurgan next week. |
