Monaghan 2nd XV (0) vs Armagh 3rd XV (13)

22nd November 2006

On Wednesday night Armagh continued their run of fine form with another win over local rivals Monaghan, but this was a far from convincing win. Armagh started off the game playing in to the wind which didnt seem to be a problem for peter rowntree kicking for touch. With several phases of good flowing rugby armagh failed to capitalise on the goods.

But with both teams being penalised by the ref it was armagh who convered their penalty kick with the thanks of peter rowntree. At the break this was to be the only score for both teams. But after the break it was like a totally different armagh team had returned to the pitch.

With a result of this it was armagh who were able to test the monaghan defence on several occasions with benny lamb and jude parr both making great ground, it was this that allowed faloon to be able to run in a fine try in the corner, conversion was missed.

Armagh were then made to make a change while a player recieved treatment for a blood injury. Armagh continued to attack the monaghan defence but failed to score. Even though monaghan ran in a few of their own attacks they never did look like scoring.

Iit was only in the last play of the game that Peter Rowntree intercepted a pass and made a fine break and scored the final try of the game, conversion missed.

With the score finishing 0-13 to Armagh it has to be said that this was a good display of rugby from the second half from a team that was missing 8 players from the team that had beaten Newry 2nds the previous saturday 20-0.
