Armagh 3rds returned to action this weekend against Newry 2nds after nearly a month without a game. Armagh also had some more new faces among their team, as they continue to build for the future.
Armagh started off the game as always pressuring the opposition inside their own 22. With several sustained attacks still had no score to show for their efforts. Only after this with some excellent rucking from the forwards Peter Rowntree was allowed to get in the pocket and slot over an easy drop goal. Leaving the score at 3-0 at half time, when Armagh should have been several tries in front.
From the restart Armagh gathered themselves and continued to attack the Newry defence but failed to gain any points, only after 20 minutes of pressure that Armagh finally got their first try of the game with Jude Parr going over after sustained forwards pressure.
From the restart Armagh again continued to attack and with some quick ball being presented to the backs that Robert Dodds was allowed to make a fine break to go over for Armaghs second try of the game, with Peter Rowntree adding the extra 2 points.
However, after the restart it was newry who pressurised the Armagh defence but with the Armagh pack and backs well and truely holding their own they were able to steal the ruck, which allowed armagh to attack again. With several pick and go's it was Niall Chapman who crossed over for Armaghs 3rd and final try of the game.
The result was well deserved as this team is still in a learning curve. But Armagh now look forward to their next game away to Monaghan on Wednesday night.
