Armagh travelled to monaghan with a mixed side of youth and experience.
Monaghan started strongly and it took armagh 20 minutes before they settled and got into the game. Simon cuttle made good ground on the wing and from the resulting scrum chris wallace picked up at no8 and outstripped the cover defence to score in the corner.
Davy nicholson was unsuccessful with the conversion but he was on target with a penalty five minutes later following some great forward pressure.
Monaghan now started to run the ball from deep, but good armagh defence prevented monaghan from scoring before half-time.
The second half proved as entertaining as the first with armagh extending their lead with a 2nd try for chris wallace from the base of the scrum some 20 metres out.
Davy nicholson added a penalty to complete armaghs scoring, but monaghan were not finished and they scored an unconverted try followed up by a penalty to make the final 10 minutes very tense.
Armagh held firm to record a great victory away from home which sees armagh maintain their unbeaten record. |
